European champions Bayern Munich have formally confirmed at the moment that they reject any idea of participating in the so-called Premier League.
Many were surprised that the German clubs Bayern and Borussia Dortmund should not be among the teams that were announced as founding members of the league on Sunday. Dortmund made it clear yesterday that the club were not interested and after general manager Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said his opinion on the matter yesterday, Bayern have now also removed all doubt.
“Our members and supporters reject the super-league. We are FC Bayern and our wish and our goal is for European clubs to experience the great and emotional competition that is the European Champions League and continue to develop it in cooperation with UEFA. FC Bayern say no to the Premier League, “said Bayern Munich in a statement.
English football club Manchester City will not take part in the planned Premier League.
It is the BBC that reports this, but the club has already announced to the guardians of the Premier League that it will not participate in the league according to the British media.
The BBC also reported earlier tonight that Chelsea were planning to withdraw from the league, so it now appears that two English teams are about to withdraw from the competition.
Around 1,000 Chelsea fans gathered outside Chelsea’s home ground, Stamford Bridge, tonight to protest their participation in the league.
Ever since the news broke that twelve of Europe’s biggest clubs were planning to create their own super-league, and stop participating in UEFA European competitions, everything has been on fire in the world of football.
Along with Chelsea and Manchester City, AC Milan, Arsenal Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham will all form the league.
The BBC reports this, but earlier this week there were reports that twelve of Europe’s biggest teams were planning to create a new European Premier League and stop participating in UEFA European competitions.
The ideas have not gone down well with football fans and a number of Chelsea fans gathered outside the club’s home ground Stamford Bridge today to protest the action.
Chelsea host Brighton in the English Premier League at 7 pm, but hundreds of the club’s supporters are now outside Stamford Bridge protesting their participation in the proposed Premier League.
The English Premier League club has not confirmed this news, but according to a BBC report, work is now underway to withdraw the team from the competition.
