Katrína does not like the super league

Prime Minister Katrína Jakobsdóttir does not like the fact that a group of some of Europe’s biggest football clubs are leaving the European Champions League and establishing their own super-league. Katrín is a big supporter of Liverpool, who intends to take part in the plans.

“I was so disappointed to see my team in this group. I even think that this road trip will just be something they have to walk alone, contrary to the good song, “she says in a conversation with mbl.is.

The business perspective has exceeded all limits

Katrín says that this is a manifestation of the fact that increased business perspectives have become increasingly prominent in football in recent years.

“But there I feel they have crossed all boundaries. I think we have completely lost sight of who these teams are playing for, but of course it is for the fans who follow them to the red death and stand with them in joy and war. A closed club is being created there and the teams will not be able to move up and meet these big teams, “Katrín concludes.

There have also been recent reports that English football clubs Manchester City and Chelsea do not intend to participate in the Premier League. Along with them, AC Milan, Arsenal Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham all join the league.

Say goodbye to the Premier League

The Prime Minister, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, expects the Althingi’s support for a bill now being submitted by the government, so that defined groups can be sent to quarantine houses and ban unnecessary travel from certain risk areas.

In light of the ruling in the district court this April – do you think the legal basis is there, will anyone take the case to court?

“I think the bill we are presenting now is just very clear. And remove all doubt completely. I think it has the support of the parliament and I have expectations that it is just the complete will of the legislature, “says Katrín.

Tougher measures in countries with higher rates of infection

The measures have been discussed back and forth at government meetings, and Katrín says that the goals are clear, the measures are conducive to reducing the risk at the border with a tiered duty in quarantine.

As the new rate is 750 per 100,000 inhabitants, the general rule will be that tourists go to an epidemiological center, but it will be possible to apply for an exemption to that effect.

In order to be granted an exemption, a tourist must be able to demonstrate that he or she can quarantine in acceptable conditions, thus giving the health authorities quite ample scope to assess whether an individual is obliged to stay in a quarantine center.

Removal plan announced in the coming days

In the next few days, the Minister of Health, Svandís Svavarsdóttir, will present the government’s removal plan.

“There we will combine a phase in vaccinations and then presumably the abolition of disease control measures that go hand in hand,” she says, adding that this is of course always subject to an assessment of the status of the epidemic each time.

The government’s bill on tougher border measures will be distributed to members of parliament tonight, but opinion polls have shown that the Independents are likely not to support the legislation. Svandís expects the measures to have majority support within the Althingi:

“This issue is of such a nature that we expect it to be dealt with quickly and well in the parliament. Fortunately, it has been the case in this fight against the epidemic that there has been a consensus in the parliament on the measures and confidence in our good faith in these matters. I expect this to continue and for people to take a stand on these issues on a matter-of-fact basis. “

“Should prove easy to implement”

The bill also provides for the authority of the Minister of Justice to ban unnecessary travel from those countries where the infection is over a thousand per hundred thousand inhabitants, but today four countries in Europe fall under it.

“We have been doing this outside of Schengen for many months and should therefore be easy to implement and to some extent limit travel to Iceland from these countries while the infection is in this way,” says Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, Minister of Justice. Icelanders’ travels to their homes will not be covered by unnecessary travel.
