Times Union: Final drive leads to the Dome
Momentum finally was on the side of the Burnt Hills football team in the fourth quarter, but it was immediately ripped away as Nyack senior kick returner Francis Stewart raced 94 yards for a go-ahead touchdown. Trailing by six points with 4:46 remaining, the Spartans stood 65 yards away from a berth in the state championship game at the Syracuse Carrier Dome.

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake football team found itself in a fourth-quarter tussle for the first time this season, and found a way out. Paul Layton and Brandon Beatty scored on eight-yard touchdown runs in the final five minutes, and Layton tacked on the extra points after both scores as the Spartans came from behind twice to edge Nyack, 14-13, in a state Class A semifinal game Friday night at Dietz Stadium.

Throughout the year, the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake football team hadn’t had anything close to resembling a scare, running its record to 11-0 going into Friday night’s Class A state semifinal against Section I’s Nyack. Now the Spartans have been on the brink of defeat and have proved they can win the close ones, too.
